Fall foliage AND hair. Peak influencing.

I was calling around to make an appointment for a haircut recently when it struck me that in the not too distant past, that decision would not come lightly. This is hard to put in writing, but my hair was, as an influencer, one of my greatest assets. It is, no doubt, embarrassing to admit how important my hair was to my influencing career. It was, to quote a comment on one of my IG posts “iconic.” Cringe. It was long and highlighted and shiny, and a regular “main event” on my IG profile. With the exception of that one time I cut it short, I never strayed too far from the norm.

Point being, I realized when I was calling to make an appointment to cut my hair (short), I hadn’t considered how that would impact anything, because it doesn’t. As an influencer, I would have spent (too much) time thinking about that. I’d probably (cringe again) poll my followers. I likely would have ended up at the salon and decided against anything drastic, give the people what they want Jess, long hair! And to most of you this might seem absolutely absurd, but this was just a normal part of everyday life for me, for a long time.

And that got me thinking about all the things I no longer do as an ex-influencer, but also, most of the time don’t even think about.

Without further ado, and in no particular order…
