Even as someone who is not on the internet that much, and who tries to be on social media as little as possible, I still know that Amazon Prime Day is in 2 days, and I find that to be deeply annoying. As I wrote this time last year, Prime Day is a good deal for Amazon, not for you. It’s a scam, and a massive payday for Amazon and all of the influencers and outlets that include as many affiliate links as possible for stuff no one needs. I know this because after I quit Amazon I did not miss out on anything. I just spent less money, and created less waste. I could make the argument that I need Amazon, living in a rural place with less than ideal access to a lot of things (and I did make that argument for a while).

But if there’s one thing I really despise, it’s billionaires, and everything they represent. Jeff Bezos is a union-busting, worker exploiting, planet destroying, tax avoiding, piece of garbage who donated $1M to Trump’s inaugural fund, and owns a $500M yacht. He’s the third richest person in the world (let that sink in) only behind his two other evil besties Mark Zuckerberg and Elon Musk. Experts “estimate that between the years 2023 and 2025, Bezos made about $8 million per hour.” Cool cool cool. So yeah, maybe cancelling Prime and deleting Amazon isn’t going to hurt Jeffy boy, but it’s sure as shit going to help me sleep at night knowing I’m not giving him a dime (here’s all the other companies Amazon owns too). Amazon might not need me, but I also don’t need Amazon. That’s liberating.
