In an effort to decrease my consumption, I’ve had to unsubscribe to basically all fashion writers who include “gifted” items in their outfits or whose posts are just a sea of affiliate links. It’s too much.

No matter how many times I try to remind myself they got that beautiful expensive sweater for free (for the express purpose of selling it to me!), it doesn’t stop the lizard part of my brain from going “but it’s so pretty and I WANT IT too and look how stylish they are and the link is RIGHT there!!”

So I enormously appreciate your commitment to making these difficult choices and working for what you believe in. Reading more and more about the waste produced by the fashion industry, and the hypocrisy of so many brands as you mentioned above, has become my main motivation for cutting back. I don’t want to participate in this system so willingly. I truly believe the only way to change it is for enough people to start voting with their wallets. It’s going to take a long time, but we didn’t get to this point overnight either.

Also I’m almost 41 and I still remember very well when being a sellout was the worst thing you could be!

Keep up the great work. Excited to go on a low-buy journey with you in the coming year.

Wow. It’s pretty impressive the fortitude it would take to say no to those paychecks, and to stick to your values. I’m not here to judge you whatever you decide, but I have to say I hugely appreciate that you have a space totally free of any paid content where it’s just one person writing about life and another person reading it. I’m happy to subscribe to that and I hope many others are too. You’ve inspired me to create my own no buy year in 2025 (eek! Little scared mostly excited). And I’m excited to share a bit here and there on my own social media, in conversations, etc. about what I learn and experience. I’m hopeful that maybe others might feel inspired to be more intentional with their resources they way I have by you. So you’re doing good work in the world, and it is making a real difference. :)
