Is it just me or is this messaging wildly depressing?

Back in my influencer days the #NSale (aka the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale) was one of the biggest money making events of the year. Not only was there tons of money to be made in commissions, but there was also paid partnerships with Nordstrom and other brands included in the Nordstrom Sale.

The last time I posted about the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale as an influencer was in 2020. I found this quote I gave to BuzzFeed back in 2021:

I just don’t like the pressure and push for consumerism that leaves people feeling like they ‘need’ things and are left out if they don’t buy from it.

The reality is I’m not shopping it, so it doesn’t feel appropriate to share my NSale picks when there’s nothing I’m buying.

I went back and looked at what I shared in 2020. A lot of the stuff available now looks exactly the same as it did 5 years ago. The boots, sweaters, jeans, bras, leggings, skincare, much of it is eerily similar if not the same. This year’s “top trends” on the site are nothing new. I kid you not, one of the “On Trend” categories is the color blue. The fashion industry is grasping at straws folks. And if it’s a deal you’re in search of, wait a few months because all of this stuff will be marked down lower than it is now.

I do not use affiliate links or paid ads with brands. The only way I monetize this newsletter is through selling subscriptions to readers. If you want to support my work, the best way to do that is to become a paid subscriber and share my newsletter with your friends. Thank you!

By now, most of us are familiar with this playbook, but it can still be hard to resist the pull of strategic marketing that makes us feel like we’re missing out. One thing I realized last summer during my first no buy year, is that you can actually get great deals on fall and even winter clothing in the off season. Even better, you can find them second-hand and participate in the circular economy. After looking through the Anniversary Sale I decided to check thredUP and see what I could find for fall. The results did not disappoint. If you’re looking to scratch the itch for fall fashion but don’t want to shop the #NSale, this one’s for you!

Here are some favorites and a list of what I bought below. If you want tips on shopping thredUP, check out this newsletter with all my best strategies. If you’re a thredUp newbie you can get 45% off and free shipping with this link (I will get a credit at thredUp if you place an order through that link as a new customer). I have no affiliation with thredUp other than I love to shop there and think it’s a great company!

This email is long and will be better viewed in your browser, it may get cut off in your inbox.

What I Bought

This is a lot for me and more than I typically buy, but it’s been a while since I actually shopped for myself for fun. I focused on items that I need to replace and pieces I’ll wear a ton.

  • Kule Long Sleeve Turtleneck (have been on the hunt for this forever!)

  • Calypso St. Barth Wool Sweater

  • Alex Mill Fleece Jacket

  • AGOLDE Wide Leg Jeans (in search of comfy jeans since all of mine feel too tight)

  • Mollusk Carpenter Pants (praying these fit because I love the style)

  • Patagonia Fleece Pants (will live in these come winter, great base layer for the mountain)
