I am really respecting and loving how you are sharing about this undoing! I’ve stopped following numerous influencers whom I love and respect because the consumption is distressing. Thanks for sharing how you are moving through this! It’s giving me lots of inspiration.

I recently visited my best friend in Vergennes. Even though I tried to bring low key clothes, I still felt out of place and overdressed. Every time I’ve visited Vermont over the last 25 years, I have fantasized about how freeing it would feel to live in a place where fashion is more functional and less fussy, more practical and less focused on optimizing for attraction. I feel like it would be a happier way to dress overall, and I find the women there no less beautiful for it. Probably more so because they seem more authentic and less overdone.

It is a very freeing and liberating experience to dress in a way that truly feels good for me, and I think living in Vermont has given me that permission. I don't know that I would've gotten to this place without living here.

Ooh this is very interesting. I do think that most people (by which I mean those of us who do not make our living online or in the fashion space) wear the same things over and over. I have a corporate job and go into the office daily, and I live and breathe by my self-imposed uniform. I consider myself well dressed and I enjoy clothes, so it's not laziness. Rather I know what fits well, looks professional, and I buy it in good quality. You better believe I'm going to wear it at least once a week, every week, until something else takes its place in the closet, or the season changes.

So that to that point, I think it's wonderful when someone who is in the online space and is also fashion-adjacent, acknowledges that rewearing items, or even entire outfits, is the norm. Because it is normal.

I actually kinda like the realism of someone (you) being like "I wore these pants 4x this week." I've always felt like the influencer class was another species of woman. Cause I'm over here wearing my 501s and sneakers most days, and other women be like "time to change into my 3rd silk shirt today." So thanks for the behind the scenes. It's refreshing.

I love this SO MUCH. This has been my entire life since switching to work from home and now in (privileged early retirement, thanks to my spouse). I follow(ed) accounts like yours for inspiration, keying in on brands I wanted to patronize to replace or update worn out pieces in my wardrobe. I don't buy a lot of new clothes every year, and never really have. I just like to be neat and put together. As I have rolled into my early 50's I concentrate on wearing clothes I genuinely find comfortable, flattering, and somewhat timeless. Shouldn't most people feel this way? I think my age is showing, lol.

You are my shopaholic sponsor for this right now! Like you with this new life in Vermont I have been trying to pair down my closet for over a year now bc half of my “old life” clothing doesn’t work here. In my previous life I was a buyer and the access i had to clothing has made my wardrobe so excessive and between Listen drop offs and poshmark I have made a small dent but still have some serious work left to do. But so often find myself wanting to add something new. This content really helps!! ❤️

We can be one another's support system. It has been shocking and eye opening to examine my shopping/consumption habits. Vermont has given me a lot of perspective that is for sure.
